Is there a relationship between education and correctional facilities?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what my grandkids will have to do to be successful. They are lucky to have been born in America. They have college-educated parents. They have broad adult interaction in their lives in that we are a close family with a ratio of adults to children of 2 to 1. Their parents own their homes, and their parents are good citizens who value information and education. AI will have a major impact on many of us as it emerges and replaces professions right and left. Kids today will have to be more flexible when earning money than previous generations when they are ready to launch. They will have to learn skills I can’t imagine, but that may come easily to them as they are native computer and internet users. Changing careers is hard, but for those of us who plan to work well into our seventies, having the flexibility to change is great. I can’t imagine working for 50 or more years doing the same work. It seems uninteresting, and as a mature person, I value ...

Redefining Wealth: Unlocking Success Beyond Fortune

I recently read an article by Morgan Housel that addressed how wealth is subjective. I love what he had to say because it seemed spot on to me.  He referenced a joke by Chris Rock, “If Bill Gates had Oprah Winfrey's money he’d jump out of a window.” The idea is that Bill Gates is so wealthy that having Oprah's money would seem like poverty. Consider where you are financially. Many of us dream of Oprah money or Bill Gates money. Even Beyonce mentions Bill Gates in her fantastic song, “Formation”. I looked into it and Beyonce has much less money than Bill Gates. Even the amazingly wealthy fantasize about other rich people’s money. The thing is that becoming extraordinarily wealthy is unlikely for most of us. Dealing with our reality is important, and making the best of our situation is the first step in mastering control over your life, whether it’s your financial life, your romantic life, or your family life. Consider this; if the wealthiest people in ...

Unlock the power of intention and focus in your life with practical tips and insights. Explore how intentionality can enhance productivity, happiness, and personal growth.

What does intention look like to you? Advice from a famous comedian Jim Carey the American comedian, artist, and actor said, “ It’s our intention. Our intention is everything. Nothing happens on this planet without it. Not one single thing has ever been accomplished without intention. ” Often we walk through life on autopilot. This can be great during times of stress when decision-making is hard, but in general, it’s more productive to be intentional. I’m not saying we always must be productive, certainly in my life, I’ve been utterly non-productive when I needed to be on autopilot. A free class about well-being When I think about what Jim Carey had to say about intention I think about what I’ve learned about happiness. I took a class using the app Coursera about happiness; it was presented by Yale professor Laurie Santos. The course is called, “The Science of Well-Being” and what I learned is that all the things we imagine equal happiness are not what truly ends u...

How to help kids understand financial responsibility

I know I just wrote about how to help kids become frugal, but… I guess this topic is on my mind now, especially since I have three grandkids and I want them to have an excellent understanding of how money works. I read an article about a third-grade teacher in South Carolina who is teaching her class about money. She has a classroom economy that pays students in fake classroom money so they can afford essentials like the rent they pay for their desks, and they can earn money by helping out in the classroom. They can use their wages to pay for “homework passes” and other items. I love this idea. I honestly think our kids will learn all they need to become functioning adults if we can teach them to read, understand math, and have a basic understanding of social science, history, and the like. Who knows what the future will hold with AI taking all the jobs one day, but I can say that any kid who loves to read and can do basic math will likely be okay. However, if kids don’t le...
